Fall Home Tour: Part 1

It’s officially fall!  It may still be warm here in Ohio, but we are starting to soak up fall and all it’s wonders! I hadn’t been feeling motivated to decorate the house for fall for some reason.  Probably had something to do with the kiddos with the ear infection and the Croup and no sleep and me hanging on by a thread trying to keep our house somewhat presentable.  But I can’t be totally sure.

Anyways, I got to sleep in my own bed last night, so I’m feeling like a new woman! I had this post all set to go out last Friday, but, life.  So, last Wednesday I was bitten by the fall decorating bug (finally)!  I’m thinking because I kept seeing all the fancy and gorgeous fall home tours on Instagram, I needed to get in on that goodness!  So, during nap, I shopped the house for everything on my fall mantle.  Then, when the boys woke up, I took them to the cutest little farm market here in town.  I can’t believe I had never been before!

I let Alex run around and pick out the pumpkins and Christian and I picked out a corn stalk.  The boys may have had a little something extra with them in the backseat on the way home…

Car packed

Alex even helped me decorate the front porch when we got home!  Here is a little sneak peak, that I posted on Instagram, of his skills.  I think the gourd on the door step really makes it.

So, without further ado, lets take a little look-see at the fall touches I’ve added to the inside of our home 🙂

We will start with the kitchen.  I don’t like to do a ton in here because I don’t like cluttered counters, but I did add a few things here and there starting with some acorn (that I maybe had Alex gather from the playground) filled votives, tied up with twine and topped with a tea light.

I also, popped this box I made with my dad onto the island.

Kitchen Island Fall Decor

I filled it with simple faux fall leaves and pumpkins and this adorable little owl Alex picked out at the Dollar Tree.  He’s adorable and his name is Pumpkin.  You can see my “gather” sign peeking from the background 🙂 (in the shop!)

Dollar Store Fall Decor

Actually, everything in here is from the Dollar Tree except the candle (TJMaxx)!  Fall decor is not complete without a candle that smells like apples/spices/pumpkins/cider amiright??

Next up is our cute little chalkboard!  I’ve never actually decorated with it before so this was fun and a tad intimidating, but I just went with it and I love how it came out!  The bunting was on our mantle last year and I couldn’t leave it unused this year.  I made the little “enjoy the little things” wood sign and I think it’s super fitting for the start of the holidays!  Take time to enjoy the little moments and try not to get caught up in all that the holidays bring 🙂

Happy Fall Y'all Chalkboard

Now lets move into the living room where our mantle got a little overhaul.

Rustic Fall Mantle

I plucked this window from our garage.  It has a few panes missing, but around here, we call that “charm”. 🙂  The wreath was on my front door last year (& the year before) so I thought it needed to live on in another part of the house this year.  It still gives me heart eyes!  I found the inspiration and tutorial over at Shanty 2 Chic if you want to make your own.  Also, keepin’ it real with the speaker 🙂

Meanwhile, on the right side of the mantle…

I tied some tiny corn husks to our lantern (from TJMaxx) and our mini-mes always hold a spot on the mantle.  They were a gift from my sister for our wedding cake topper.  Love!  I just leaned some books against it (turned backwards because I’m a rebel like that) and voila!  A small fall moment 🙂

Small Fall Touches

The glass pumpkins are also a staple for our fall decor.  I made them!  For real!  My mother-in-law took me and my sisters-in-law to a glass blowing class in Pittsburgh where we made these awesome little pumpkins!  With oodles of help of course 🙂  Then I took some faux fall blooms (I think from Walmart a few years back??) and stuck them in a quart size mason jar filled with navy beans.

And we cannot forget the squirrel.  Who doesn’t love a good autumn squirrel??  This was a gift from my mom (actually, everybody in our family got one) as a little inside joke because we love the movie Christmas Vacation so much.  We are always quoting it because it applies more than you would think to daily life.  “Squiiiiiirrrrrrrrellllll!!!!”  He even came with those pinecones and golden acorns.

So there you have it!  Part one of my Autumn home tour.  Part two will be coming to you when I can get my kids to the farm market for more pumpkins!

How is your fall decorating going?  Is it going?  Sometimes I have a very hard time getting in the spirit because I maybe don’t want to let go of summer just yet??  It’s going to start cooling down here soon, so that will definitely get me in the flannel/latte/bonfire/pumpkin/hayride/apples mood 🙂

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I so hope this inspired you to add a little warmth to your home this fall 🙂
