Baby Velcro Shoe Hack

Hello, friends!

Spring is finally on it’s way!  It’s starting to warm up a bit here in Ohio and we’ve been spending more and more time outside, which means that I actually need to put shoes on Christian.  He’s been wearing his Bison Booties all Winter which are completely adorable and comfy for inside, but outside he needs something a little bit sturdier (and something I’m not too attached to because I’m not ruining Bison Booties outside!).

DIY Baby Velcro Shoe Hack

I found these and these soft soled shoes at Target for $5 each (of course I can’t find them anymore at Target, but Amazon to the rescue!) and figured they would work well for the few months he was learning to walk in the Spring (before I put him into hard soled shoes).  He got them for Christmas, I loved them and put them on him.  He took them off in about 1 minute.  I couldn’t pull the velcro any tighter so he could slip them right off!  Tricky!

Shoes 2

I really wanted to use them because they are the cutest little high top baby shoes ( I mean, what baby shoes aren’t the cutest??).  If only I could pull them just a little tighter…

Enter my Dritz snap tool and snaps that I got a while back with big intentions of sewing all the things and maybe making cloth diapers (hahahahaha!).  I did make a few bandana bibs (adorable!) and then, I was no longer pregnant and nesting and sewing didn’t sound like any fun at all to me anymore 🙂  I still think this snap tool is like, the coolest thing ever, though.  I thought, I could totally put snaps on these shoes to make them tighter!

So I started by using the pointy tool (technical term) and put a hole in the strap of the shoe.

Then you put the rounded snap cover on top (this has the pointy part to go through the hole you just poked) and the  female piece of the snap on the other side.  Then you slide your snap tool over both and squeeze as hard as you can.  This smooshes down the point to bond the two pieces together.

Voila!  One side of the snap done!

Next, find the cutest baby feet you can find and get a rough estimate of where you want the other half of the snap to go.

Shoes 6

Next, do the same thing as you did before with the pokey tool.

Shoes 7

Then stick the rounded part of the snap on the inside of the shoe and the male piece of the snap on the outside.  Slide it into you snap tool and squeeze.  You’ll be left with this!

Shoes 8

A snap ready to be used!  It’s really so so simple!  And now Christian’s shoes don’t come flying off within 30 seconds and added bonus, he can’t get them off himself!!  Every mom’s dream!

I did the other pair of shoes we got, too.

Now he has two pairs of shoes to wear outside that are easy for him to learn to walk in and it only took me about 15 minutes to make them snap shoes instead of Velcro shoes!  Can’t beat that!

Have you been playing outside lately?  Words cannot explain how happy I am that it is warming up!  I don’t ever remember wanting Winter to be over this much!
