Hello there & Happy New Year!

It’s sure been a while.  I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season!  We are finally home and recovering from our 10 day trip visiting family and friends.  We were able to visit John’s parents and sisters (& their families) for the first part of the trip.  Alex loved playing with his cousin Oliver!  Then we made our way farther up north to Michigan to visit my parents, grandparents and sister (& her family).  Alex was on cousin overload after spending a few days with Parker!  He couldn’t believe his luck =]

We are glad to be home and so thankful for the time with family.  Now it’s back to business.  Oh, and if you don’t crochet, please enjoy the adorable pictures of my little model =]  Love him!

Free Football Crochet Hat Pattern

I’m so excited (& pretty nervous) to post my first ever crochet hat pattern.  I’ve been making stuff from memory/from my brain for quite a while and thought I might as well start putting it down on paper.  This is probably my all-time favorite hat that Alex wears.  It is so stinking cute.  I only have the toddler size so far, but feel free to ask if you need help making it smaller or larger.

Ch 1

Sc around, putting two SC in each corner of each earflap and in the point of each earflap.  Finish off, weave in ends.

STRINGS (optional)

For each side:

-Cut 1 strand of cream and 2 strands of brown at about  24”

-String cream strand through middle stitch on point of earflap and the two brown on either side (keep the strings folded around the stitch) (It will look like you have doubled your strands)

-Tie all strings together in a knot under the point of earflap

– Braid the strands together until you reach your desired length, then knot the end

-trim off excess yarn

FOOTBALL STITCHES

-Find the front and center of your hat

-Using a tapestry needle and your cream yarn, insert needle from back to front at top of middle section, just under top cream stripe (large brown section)

-Insert needle (from front to back) about 2- 2 ½ inches down or just above bottom cream stripe.  This is your vertical stitch

-Make 4 evenly spaced horizontal stitches across your vertical stitch.

-Finish off on inside of hat and trim excess yarn

Hooray!  All done!  Please feel free to email or comment any questions you have!
